The $28.99 model plays the console's iconic two-part boot chime and lights up a green LED when its power button is pressed, offering a nostalgic nod to a machine the reviewer credits with shaping his relationship with gaming and technology, despite its notoriously fragile disc-reading mechanism.

The ornament recreates the pre-DualShock era PlayStation, complete with ridged sides, a power plug and the distinctive A/V port Sony retained through the PlayStation 3. Its controller is glued to the disc lid with a partially attached cable, and it runs on three included 1.5-volt coin batteries; minor cosmetic flaws, such as a slightly crooked "Power" button font, are barely noticeable from a short distance. It follows last year's Xbox 360 replica in Hallmark's console ornament line, and the review recalls the writer's childhood repair of his own PlayStation's failing disc spindle using superglue.
