The fanless design is possible because Apple's power-efficient M-series chips generate less heat than their Intel predecessors, allowing a passive heat spreader to dissipate warmth through the aluminium case rather than relying on active airflow. The trade-off is that sustained heavy use, such as large video exports or demanding games, can trigger thermal throttling, where macOS reduces processor speed to manage temperature, meaning prosumer users may still prefer a fan-cooled MacBook Pro for consistently high performance.
