The Show Will Go On Without Ariana Grande: ‘Sunday In The Park With George’ Producers Plan For Musical Without ‘Wicked’ Star

Deadline · 4 hours ago

Ariana Grande has withdrawn from the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George, but producers have confirmed the production will proceed without her. The Wicked star announced over the weekend that she would "step back from visibility" after completing her Eternal Sunshine tour, citing "endless, ongoing public scrutiny," prompting Empire Street Productions to express support for her decision while confirming plans to continue the show.

The musical is still set to open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, with a new cast member to be announced in due course. Jonathan Bailey, who was due to star alongside Grande, remains attached to the project, which is being directed by Tony and Olivier Award winner Marianne Elliott. Deadline first reported the Grande-Bailey pairing in December, and Grande said she intends to finish her tour "healthily and happily" before taking a break from public-facing work.
