The Story of Billy Evans and ‘Theranos 2.0’

Wired ·

Billy Evans is developing Haemanthus, a health-testing company whose proposed home tests and his relationship with Elizabeth Holmes have prompted comparisons with Theranos. Evans says the company is “not Theranos 2.0”, and a person familiar with the business says Holmes is not involved, though a documentary shows the couple discussing plans and agreeing with that comparison.

Evans founded Haemanthus in 2022, but it has no released products and little public information. Its stated aim is to bring blood, urine and saliva testing into American homes using a countertop-sized device. Evans grew up in a wealthy San Diego hotel family, studied economics at MIT and later worked at technology firms; he met Holmes in 2017.
