The Sunshine Underground returned to the stage in Manchester on 23 July for their first full live performance in nearly a decade, ahead of a larger reunion concert in Leeds. The warm-up show marked the revival of a band closely associated with Leeds’ indie-dance and “nu-rave” scene, and previewed celebrations for the 20th anniversary of its debut album, ‘Raise The Alarm’.

At Gorilla, the band played a 17-song set, including all 11 tracks from ‘Raise The Alarm’, five songs from 2010’s ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’ and ‘Start’ from its 2014 self-titled album. Their next performance is a one-off 25 July show at Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds, joined by White Lies, Hard-Fi, The Futureheads, The Twang and The Whip; the group originally split in 2016 after releasing four studio albums.
