Stephen King’s acclaimed supernatural horror choice, 1980’s *The Changeling*, is now available to stream free on Tubi. In a 2017 BFI interview, King called Peter Medak’s film the best in supernatural horror, praising its restrained scares rather than conventional monster effects.

The film stars George C. Scott as widowed composer John Russell, who moves into an apparently empty Seattle mansion after his wife and daughter are killed. There he investigates escalating paranormal events and discovers the ghost of Joseph Carmichael, a murdered six-year-old whose father allegedly replaced him with an orphan to secure a large inheritance; the story eventually leads John to confront Joseph’s adult replacement, now a US senator.
