Makinarium, the film prop and costume workshop based at Pinewood Studios in the UK, has launched a new premium collectibles venture called Makinarium Studio Edition, with an officially licensed T-800 Optics piece as its debut release. The collectible recreates the glowing red eye of the Terminator from James Cameron's 1984 film and its sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and is aimed at giving fans a tactile, high-end memento made by the same crews who build props for film and television productions.

Only 800 units of the T-800 Optics will be sold across the US, UK and Europe, each hand-finished at Pinewood Studios rather than factory-produced, and mounted on a display stand designed to evoke a damaged unit retrieved from the battlefield. Every piece contains an encrypted NFC chip, powered by Fan Connect, that owners can tap with a smartphone to access a digital portal verifying authenticity and provenance via a unique serial number. Makinarium executives, including Chief Strategy Officer Lee Kirton and Creative Director Jet Cooper, described the aim as producing something comparable to a luxury watch rather than a mass-market toy; Makinarium is part of the Victory Films Group, whose credits include Star Wars, Jurassic World and various Marvel films.
