Accused linked himself to Saltburn character in texts before alleged killings

Daily Mail ·

Texts released in the NSW Supreme Court show accused killer Beau Lamarre-Condon urged a friend to watch *Saltburn* days before he allegedly killed Jesse Baird and Luke Davies. He wrote that he could picture himself playing the film’s “nerd”, a character who becomes dangerously obsessed and kills a family. The messages are part of evidence being examined in the case.

The friend, senior constable Fiona Rosso, told the court she and Lamarre-Condon had discussed his troubled relationship with Baird, but said she could not recall the context of the messages. On 18 February, he told her he loved and valued her friendship; early the next morning, he wrote, “I’m doing it” after she asked whether a sign from the universe meant “yay or nay”. He also said he had deactivated his social media, then tried calling her five times from a burner phone after midday.

In short

  • Lamarre-Condon recommended *Saltburn* three days before the alleged killings.
  • He said he could picture himself playing the film’s “nerd”.
  • His friend told court she could not recall the context of their messages.

Explained simply

Jesse Baird was a television presenter and Luke Davies was his partner. Beau Lamarre-Condon, a serving police officer at the time, is accused of killing both men in February 2024; he has pleaded not guilty.

The case is being heard in the NSW Supreme Court, where prosecutors and the defence are examining evidence about events before the deaths. Text messages can help establish what people said and did, but their meaning and relevance are matters for the court to consider.

The film Saltburn features a character whose fixation on another family turns violent. The messages mentioning the film are part of the evidence, alongside testimony from Lamarre-Condon’s friend and colleague, senior constable Fiona Rosso.
