‘The Uprising’ Trailer: Andrew Garfield Leads a Rebellion Against King Richard II in Paul Greengrass’ Historical Thriller
Focus Features has released the trailer for "The Uprising," a historical thriller starring Andrew Garfield as the leader of a rebellion against King Richard II. Written, directed and produced by Paul Greengrass, best known for "Captain Phillips" and "United 93," the film revisits a turbulent period of English history when royal taxation policy sparked popular unrest, offering a timely reminder of Greengrass's continued interest in dramatising conflict and upheaval.
The story is set in the aftermath of the Black Plague, as Richard II imposed harsh taxes on his subjects to help fund the Hundred Years' War, prompting an uprising of "the people" against royal authority. The cast also includes Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston and Sky Yang, with Jason Blum among the producers. "The Uprising" is due in cinemas on 11 September, following Garfield's recent roles in "The Magic Faraway Tree" and "After the Hunt."
