Emily Kinney has spoken about reprising her role as Beth Greene in Season 3 of "The Walking Dead: Dead City," marking her first return to the character since Beth's death in Season 5 of the original series. The Episode 6 storyline places Beth in an alternate reality imagined by showrunner Seth Hoffman, allowing Maggie (Lauren Cohan) to reconnect with her sister in a world without walkers, and giving Kinney the chance to explore who Beth might have become as an adult rather than the teenager fans last saw.

In the interview, Kinney described accepting the role as an easy decision, driven largely by her desire to work with Cohan again and to revisit a character who shaped a significant part of her career over four or five years on the original show. She found it surprisingly natural to slip back into Beth's established style and personality, building on details like her braids, jewellery and love of music, which carried over into the alternate-reality version now living and singing in New York City. Kinney also noted she got to perform one of her own original songs in the episode and expressed hope that fans would find a greater sense of closure with Beth's story.
