The War on Drugs have released "Who's That," their first new studio recording since 2022, accompanied by a music video directed by Max Flick. The track, written and produced by frontman Adam Granduciel at his studio in Southern California, sees him confront emotional imbalance and depression, notably through the refrain "It's only my depression, baby," marking a significant return for the band as they work towards a follow-up to 2021's I Don't Live Here Anymore.

The five-minute song features Anthony LaMarca on drums and Dave Hartley on bass, alongside Granduciel's guitars and keyboards, and Granduciel says it was written in just ten minutes between his morning coffee and the school run. Since their last studio album, the band released the live record Live Drugs Again in 2024, and Granduciel co-produced Sam Fender's 2025 album People Watching; he has also said the still-unannounced new record is "almost done" and "basically fully homemade." The War on Drugs return to touring later this month, beginning 18 September in Wilmington, Delaware, with further US dates including Sea.Hear.Now, Bourbon & Beyond and two weekends at Austin City Limits.
