A group of Claude users has filed a class-action lawsuit against Anthropic, alleging that the company misled subscribers about the usage limits of its top-tier Max plan. Filed on 8 September and first reported by The Verge, the suit claims Anthropic's marketing promised "5x or 20x more usage than the Pro plan" without adequately disclosing that Max subscribers are also bound by weekly usage caps, not just the daily session limits implied in its advertising. The case follows an earlier federal lawsuit brought by a single Claude subscriber in June, and reflects wider frustration among users, many of whom have voiced confusion on platforms like Reddit.

Anthropic launched the Max plan in April 2025 at $100 or $200 a month, compared with Pro plans starting at $17 monthly when billed annually, but only introduced weekly usage limits some months later, in August. Critics say this means the advertised multipliers are misleading in practice; one widely shared analysis suggested the $200 tier delivers only around 1.7 times the usage of the $100 tier, despite claiming a fourfold difference, once weekly caps are applied. Attorney Monica Vaca, representing the plaintiffs, said Anthropic does disclose the limitations on a support page, but only via multiple hyperlinks that obscure the true terms. Anthropic had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
