The Weeknd has premiered a new song titled 'Tokyo' featuring Japanese singer Yoko Takahashi during the Asian leg of his 'After Hours Til Dawn' stadium tour at Belluna Dome in Saitama on September 19 and 20. The track samples 'A Cruel Angel's Thesis', the iconic opening theme from the 1995 anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, with accompanying visuals designed by creative director Yoko Taro that featured characters from both Neon Genesis Evangelion and the video game NieR:Automata. This represents a notable creative collaboration between Western pop and Japanese cultural touchstones.

The performance marks the second unreleased Weeknd song unveiled onstage this year, following 'Rio' with Brazilian artist Anitta in April. The tour, which has run since 2022 and holds the record for highest-grossing tour by a male solo artist, continues through Asia with scheduled dates in Jakarta, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur before concluding in November.
