The Whisper Man Review
IGN’s review finds Netflix thriller The Whisper Man to be competently made and well cast, but ultimately too reliant on familiar horror and serial-killer conventions. The film follows a widowed crime novelist whose son disappears, forcing him to reconnect with his estranged retired-detective father; its failure to develop those family relationships weakens what could have been an emotionally effective story.
Adapted from Alex North’s novel, the film stars Adam Scott, Robert De Niro and Michelle Monaghan, and premieres globally on Netflix on 28 August 2026. Reviewer Roth Cornet praises director James Ashcroft’s unsettling imagery, brisk pacing and some strong performances, but says its principal twist is obvious, coincidences strain credibility and numerous side plots leave major threads unexplored.
- Strong cast cannot overcome a predictable, trope-heavy thriller.
- Family drama and mystery are underdeveloped.
- The film premieres on Netflix on 28 August 2026.
