CD Projekt Red is revisiting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a new expansion, Songs of the Past, due in 2027, despite the 2016 Blood and Wine expansion appearing to conclude Geralt of Rivia’s story. The return is significant because it extends one of modern gaming’s best-known role-playing games before The Witcher 4 arrives in 2028, while testing whether Geralt can be brought out of retirement without weakening that earlier ending.

The expansion will be developed chiefly by Fool’s Theory, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red staff, and released alongside a full remaster that will be free to existing owners of the 2015 game. Dandelion summons Geralt to his homeland of Letten, a seemingly prosperous festival-filled land with darker secrets; returning actors Doug Cockle and John Schwab reprise their roles. New gameplay elements include enhanced combat and skill trees, a chain weapon, and mutagens that alter Geralt’s abilities; it is planned for PC, Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
