The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to receive a brand new expansion, Songs of the Past, and it will make its first public appearance at Gamescom's Opening Night Live showcase next month. This matters because the expansion, revealed for a game now over a decade old, promises a substantial new adventure for series star Geralt of Rivia ahead of the eventual arrival of Witcher 4, giving fans a fresh reason to revisit the acclaimed RPG.

Developer CD Projekt Red has so far only confirmed that Songs of the Past will return players to the role of Geralt for a new story, with few further details disclosed. The expansion is coming to PS5 only, with no PS4 version planned, and the studio has suggested it will be comparable in scale to Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, indicating a sizeable addition. Gamescom's Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, takes place in late August, where further details are expected to be revealed.
