The Witcher 4 developers target a 2028 release

CD Projekt Red has for the first time given a concrete release window for The Witcher 4, with joint CEO Michał Nowakowski targeting a 2028 launch. This marks the first firm timeframe attached to the long-teased mainline instalment, which the studio has shown in videos over the years without previously committing to a date, giving fans and investors a clearer sense of when the next chapter in the fantasy series will arrive.
Before then, CD Projekt Red has other Witcher content on the way. A Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past, is due in 2027 and will be shown at this week's Gamescom event, featuring in Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live broadcast on Tuesday at 2pm ET. The studio is also developing a multiplayer spin-off codenamed Project Siris, though it confirmed earlier in August that it had laid off staff working on that title.

CD Projekt Red is the Polish studio behind The Witcher games, an award-winning fantasy series based on novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, about a monster hunter called Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher 4 will be the first mainline entry since 2015's The Witcher 3, and although the studio has shown teaser footage over several years, it had never previously named a release timeframe, leaving fans and investors guessing about when it might arrive.
In the meantime, CD Projekt Red is keeping the franchise active through other projects. It is releasing an expansion for the original Witcher 3, called Songs of the Past, and separately developing a multiplayer spin-off known internally as Project Siris. These side projects matter because they show how the studio is managing its resources and output while the much larger, more resource-intensive Witcher 4 remains some years away.
The story matters to the games industry because CD Projekt Red is a major, publicly listed developer, and firm release timelines for its flagship series can influence investor confidence, staffing decisions and the wider release calendar for big-budget games.
