CD Projekt has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will receive a physical release when it launches in 2028, despite that date falling after Sony is due to stop manufacturing PlayStation 5 game discs. The commitment matters because The Witcher 4 is the most high-profile AAA title currently scheduled for that year, and it comes from a studio with a strong track record of supporting physical collector's editions, at a time when console makers are winding down disc production and leaving developers uncertain about their options.

Speaking to The Game Business, CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said the studio would still produce a boxed edition with physical extras, calling the team "big fans" of tangible collectibles. However, he admitted uncertainty over whether the game disc itself will be included, since Sony controls its own manufacturing and plans to halt disc production by January 2028. The Witcher 4 is set for PS5, PC and Xbox Series X in 2028, while a current-generation remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt arrives on 29 September, followed by the Songs of the Past expansion in 2027.
