Tyler Shultz questions blood-testing device shown in Elizabeth Holmes documentary

Daily Mail ·

Theranos whistleblower Tyler Shultz says Elizabeth Holmes appears “almost unrecognisable” in a new documentary filmed during the final days before she began serving her prison sentence. Shultz, whose account helped a Wall Street Journal investigation expose problems with Theranos’s blood-testing claims, said the confident former boss he knew seemed like a “broken woman” on screen.

Shultz also argues the film may show a different blood-testing device from the one Theranos used and concealed from regulators, and says Holmes misled director Nathan Fielder about it. Fielder spent 34 days with Holmes at home before she surrendered to serve an 11-year sentence; she was convicted of investor fraud and conspiracy in 2022. Her sentence was later reduced by 12 months, and she is expected to transfer to a Texas halfway house next August.

  • Tyler Shultz says Holmes seemed unrecognisable in the documentary.
  • He alleges the film shows a different device from Theranos’s failed system.
  • Holmes was convicted of fraud and conspiracy and is due to transfer next August.
