Sheffield residents made thousands of calls to pest control services during 2025, with council data revealing which pests are causing the most concern in the city. Rats are by far the biggest problem, accounting for more than half of all reported cases, well ahead of the next most common complaint. Wasps rank second behind rats, though with substantially fewer reports, while mice, bed bugs and cockroaches also feature among residents' concerns, with cockroach call-outs notably lower than recent coverage of a market closure might suggest. Local pest control specialists link the rising number of calls to weather conditions that favour pest activity, noting that rat and ant complaints in particular have become more frequent and severe than in previous years, whereas wasp problems vary depending on how many colonies survive the winter.
