EssilorLuxottica unveils Nuance Audio Plus glasses with clearer sound and longer battery

The Verge · 20 minutes ago

EssilorLuxottica has launched the Nuance Audio Plus, an upgraded version of its discrete over-the-counter hearing aid glasses. The device retains the appearance of standard eyewear whilst housing FDA-approved hearing aid technology in its thin temple arms, and introduces enhanced audio amplification, improved voice clarity in noisy environments, and extended battery life of up to 10 hours. This update aims to make hearing assistance more discreet and user-friendly compared to traditional devices.

The Nuance Audio Plus is available in the United States from $829 (higher with prescription lenses), offered in three frame styles and five colours. Key improvements include dual listening modes—Frontal for face-to-face conversations and All-Around for ambient sound—selectable via a mobile app, along with four preset amplification settings and three noise reduction levels. New on-frame controls, including a dedicated power slider and volume buttons, reduce reliance on the smartphone app, whilst automatic sleep mode activates when the glasses are folded. The original Nuance Audio model remains available at $699, though direct call answering via the glasses is currently limited to iPhone users.
