“They let me put a grand piano on the snake pit”: What’s it like supporting Metallica in stadiums? Evanescence’s Amy Lee calls it “so fun”

Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee has described supporting Metallica on the Australia and New Zealand leg of the metal giants' M72 world tour as "so fun". Support slots on stadium tours can be a fraught experience for touring bands navigating another act's production and crew, but Lee said Metallica were "so gracious" hosts, giving Evanescence considerable creative freedom during their sets.

Evanescence played six stadium shows alongside Metallica and openers Suicidal Tendencies in November 2025, with each of the band's sets running for around an hour. Lee said Metallica even allowed her to bring her grand piano onto the stage, including onto the "snake pit" area, for the full duration of the performances. Speaking to Loudwire, she reflected on the delicate balance of respecting a headliner's show while still pushing for strong production, saying: "It's their show and [you give] full-on respect… But also, can we have some good production? What exactly can we get away with?"
