Camera-equipped screwdriver uses AI to identify screws and select bits

The Verge ·

Arrowmax is crowdfunding the Arrowspace S1, an electric screwdriver that uses a camera and AI to identify screw types and sizes. It aims to make repairs easier by recommending the right bit and choosing a safe torque setting, reducing the chance of damaging a screw.

A camera and LED photograph the screw head, while a probe helps keep the image in focus; the result appears in a connected app. An optional case holds 52 steel bits and lights up the recommended one. The screwdriver is available to preorder for about $79, or around $129 with the case, and is not expected to ship before April 2027. Arrowmax claims its 600mAh battery can run for up to 90 minutes or handle more than 900 screws.

In short

  • AI identifies the screw and recommends a bit.
  • Automatic torque settings aim to protect fasteners.
  • Preorders start at about $79; shipping is expected from April 2027.
