A shoot-'em-up called Changeable Guardian ESTIQUE, originally released for the Nintendo Famicom in 2024, is being ported to PS5 this week. The release lets players experience an authentically 8-bit-style game on modern hardware without needing original Famicom equipment, while adding several console-friendly enhancements. Notably, the developers have emphasised accessibility, which is unusual for the horizontal shooter genre, particularly for titles designed in this retro style.

The PS5 version includes CRT filters, customisable wallpapers, a rewind feature, and the ability to switch between the Japanese and American ROM versions, which differ slightly. Gameplay design choices include a regenerating life system and the removal of power-ups, intended to make the game approachable for beginners while still offering a strategic challenge for experienced players. Visually, the game features detailed sprite work and abilities allowing players to switch between a "Fighter Form" and a "Robot Form".
