This see-through camera lets photographers maintain eye contact with their subjects
South Korean startup Lutra has unveiled the HOA A1, a screen-free digital camera designed with a large open viewfinder so photographers can keep eye contact with subjects while framing shots. The design aims to make taking pictures feel more direct, without relying on a screen.
The First Edition is due on 1 December, with only 100 units planned, priced at 360,000 won or $289 in the US. It has a 16-megapixel Sony sensor and a 26mm f/1.75 lens; its small rear display shows camera information. Photos can be accessed by tapping a smartphone to the camera, but Wi-Fi is needed to view and download them. Each image is authenticated with an anonymous certificate recorded on a public blockchain, while a separate app can add the photographer’s signature.
In short
- HOA A1 uses an open viewfinder to help photographers maintain eye contact.
- The 16-megapixel camera is planned as a 100-unit First Edition.
- Photos use blockchain authentication and transfer to phones over Wi-Fi.
