Film industry figures worldwide have voiced support for Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the Oscar-winning Israeli directors of the documentary NAZA, after Israel's culture minister Miki Zohar threatened to revoke their citizenship and accused them of treason. NAZA, produced by the Guardian, examines the AI-powered targeting systems Israel used to bombard Gaza, and Zohar's threat has drawn condemnation from major festival leaders who see it as an attack on artistic and journalistic freedom.

The 80-minute documentary features interviews with 24 Israeli military and intelligence personnel and builds on reporting by +972 Magazine, Local Call and the Guardian since 2023. It won the special jury prize at Venice after a record-breaking 25-minute standing ovation, and is due to screen at San Sebastián, Bologna and New York festivals in the coming weeks. Festival directors including Telluride's Julie Huntsinger, Berlin's Tricia Tuttle and the heads of Locarno and San Sebastián have all publicly backed the directors, who previously won the 2025 documentary Oscar for No Other Land, after which Abraham's family home was targeted by a rightwing mob.
