This ‘Spider-Man’ Art Book Explores the Making of ‘Brand New Day,’ From Early Concept Sketches to Final Production Designs

Variety · 3 hours ago

A new hardcover art book, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day — The Art of the Movie," is now available to pre-order ahead of its 18 August release, offering an inside look at the visual development of the latest Tom Holland-led Marvel film. Written by Jess Harrold, the 208-page book charts the film's design process from early concept sketches through to finished character, costume and production artwork, giving fans a deeper view into how the sequel was brought to the screen.

Among its highlights, the book examines Spider-Man's redesigned costume, which returns to a more traditional comic-book look with brighter red-and-blue tones, raised webbing and a larger chest emblem, departing from the sleek Stark-designed suits of Holland's earlier films. The release coincides with the film's record-breaking box office run: "Brand New Day" opened to $360 million domestically, overtaking "Avengers: Endgame" for the biggest opening weekend in North American history, and around $932 million worldwide, the second-largest global opening ever. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and continuing the story after "Spider-Man: No Way Home," the film stars Holland alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. The book is priced at $46.60 on Amazon.
