Thousands of residents in Spokane, Washington, were forced to flee their homes on 2 August 2026 as multiple fast-moving wildfires broke out in and around the city, prompting large parts of the area to be placed under Level 3 "leave now" evacuation orders. The blazes come amid record-setting drought conditions across the state, with strong winds and low humidity fuelling rapid fire growth, and further heat and wind forecast in the coming days.

The largest of the fires, the Old Trails Fire, had burned more than 3,500 acres by early Sunday morning, scorched Riverside State Park north-west of the city, and threatened as many as 5,000 structures; two further blazes, the Fairview Fire and the Autumn Lane Fire, also broke out nearby. Governor Bob Ferguson declared a statewide wildfire emergency and imposed a burn ban, while roughly 30 National Guard members were mobilised and Spokane's convention centre was opened as an emergency shelter. Almost 11,000 properties lost power, more than 8,000 of them in Spokane County. Washington has now recorded over 1,000 fires burning some 425,000 acres so far this year, the highest total since 2021.
