Police in Derbyshire detained three people after responding to reports of a break-in at Mount St Mary's College, a formerly exclusive Catholic school located in Spinkhill village outside Sheffield. Officers who were already patrolling the area made a swift response, conducting a stop and search under police powers. The incident reflects growing concerns about unauthorised access to the derelict campus, which has gained attention on social media platforms encouraging visitors to explore the historic building.

The college, established by the Jesuits in 1842, ceased operations in July 2025 after entering administration due to insurmountable financial pressures despite receiving substantial institutional support. Now marketed by estate agents as a development site, the vacant property poses documented risks including structural instability, hazardous materials, and other dangers. Police have urged parents and guardians to discourage young people from trespassing, emphasising that the grounds remain private property and entry without permission is illegal.
