A three-month-old girl has died in an "unexplained" incident while camping with her family in woodland in Staffordshire, prompting a police investigation. The baby went into cardiac arrest on land off Strawberry Lane, near Great Wyrley, at around 8.45am on Saturday and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards by paramedics; police have stressed the death appears to be an isolated incident rather than any wider threat to the public.

Officers cordoned off a fishing lake within the Wyrley and Essington Branch Canal Local Nature Reserve, with a scene guard remaining in place into the following day, while an air ambulance also attended. Detective Inspector Katie Gregory said the investigation was at an early stage and confirmed the family had been camping in the area. A local district councillor urged residents to avoid speculation and to respect the privacy of the family and emergency responders as inquiries continue.
