Daily Mail ·

A man in his 40s was seriously injured in an attack by three dogs on Streeter Avenue in Broome at about 3am on 21 October. A resident used a vehicle to keep the dogs back and took him to hospital; he was later flown to Perth for treatment.

Police found the dogs unaccompanied in the area, and rangers captured them at about 7am. The man left hospital on Tuesday evening, according to the state Department of Health, and the owners agreed to have the dogs euthanased. The Shire of Broome is investigating.

Explained simply

Broome is a town in Western Australia’s Kimberley region, where local councils manage animal control through rangers. Dog attacks can involve both police, who respond to immediate safety concerns, and council officers, who investigate under local rules.

The Shire of Broome is the local government responsible for services and investigations in the town. When dogs are found roaming without an owner, authorities may need to establish who owns them and whether laws on keeping animals have been broken.
