Thunder lose both Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace for potentially whole NBA season after devastating injuries

Fox News ·

The Oklahoma City Thunder say Jalen Williams needs surgery for a dislocated ankle and fractured fibula, while Cason Wallace will also undergo surgery after tearing the labrum in his left shoulder. The injuries could sideline both players for much of the season, leaving the defending team to adjust its starting line-up and test its depth.

Williams was injured while attempting a shot against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, landing awkwardly on his left foot and ankle before being stretchered off. Wallace hurt his shoulder in the first quarter; general manager Sam Presti announced both diagnoses on Monday. Williams missed 49 regular-season games last season with wrist and hamstring problems, while Wallace signed a five-year, $139 million extension before this season.

In short

  • Jalen Williams needs ankle and fibula surgery.
  • Cason Wallace requires surgery for a torn shoulder labrum.
  • Oklahoma City may rely on its bench for much of the season.
