Tim Curry, the actor celebrated for roles including Dr Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died aged 80 in Los Angeles. Fellow actors and admirers remembered him as a generous, inventive performer whose distinctive voice, comic timing and willingness to take risks made him an enduring influence across film, theatre and television.

His manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz announced the death on Wednesday; no cause was immediately given, although Curry had suffered a major stroke in 2012.
