Tim Reaper Announces Debut Album, World’s End
UK jungle producer Tim Reaper has announced his debut solo album, *World’s End*, due on Hyperdub on 19 February next year. Its first single, “Roll Call”, is inspired by marching bands; the album expands his jungle sound with influences from gqom, footwork, drill and techno.
Reaper said the project grew from his thinking about jungle as a sound shaped by breakbeats and tempo, while leaving room for other elements. After his 2024 EP *Scorched Earth* prompted him to explore newer, less commonly referenced sounds, *World’s End* brings that approach across 11 tracks, including “Dustbowl”, “Aim Assist” and “Widespread Panic”.
In short
- Tim Reaper’s debut solo album arrives on 19 February.
- “Roll Call” is the first single.
- The 11 tracks mix jungle with several other styles.
Explained simply
Jungle is a style of electronic dance music that emerged in the UK in the early 1990s. It is built around fast tempos and chopped-up breakbeats, with bass and other sounds adding to its rhythm.
Tim Reaper is a UK producer known for making jungle, and Hyperdub is an independent record label that releases electronic music. His album draws on sounds including gqom, a dance style from South Africa, as well as footwork, drill and techno.
The album reflects a wider question in electronic music: how producers can keep a genre’s defining features while bringing in sounds from elsewhere. Reaper has described jungle’s breakbeats and tempo as a foundation that can leave room for other influences.
