On 16 July, a man evaded security at the "Today" set and, according to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ, was searching for weatherman Al Roker before confronting Melvin instead. The intruder was arrested and no one was physically hurt. Under the new rules, each guest may now be accompanied by a maximum of two people in the studio, with no exceptions for additional PR, styling or support staff, who must instead wait in the green room. NBC News said it was reviewing its security protocols, while Melvin briefly addressed the incident on air, thanking staff for a swift response and confirming cooperation with the NYPD.
