On 28 June 2025, Belone threw the child, Clover, onto a mattress in frustration over toileting difficulties, causing her to ricochet and strike her head against the wall; she was found unresponsive with severe bruising, swollen eyes and head trauma. Court documents reveal that six days earlier, Belone had texted the child's mother threatening to "murder her" and subsequently sent increasingly violent messages, including demands that she "find [Clover] a new home." Phone records and witness accounts show Belone had repeatedly struck the child, hitting her across the cheekbones and sides, and had suggested breaking her nose before the near-fatal incident.
