Steven Spielberg's 2005 sci-fi blockbuster *War of the Worlds*, starring Tom Cruise, is set to be removed from Peacock in the United States, giving subscribers a limited window to watch it before it disappears from the service. The news follows the release of Spielberg's latest science-fiction outing, *Disclosure Day*, starring Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor, which has drawn a mixed audience response but has still crossed $100 million domestically and $200 million worldwide.

*War of the Worlds* was the third instalment in a run of Spielberg sci-fi films that also included *A.I. Artificial Intelligence* and *Minority Report*, and it remains his highest-grossing film of the 21st century, the only one of his post-2000 releases to pass $600 million worldwide. Critics and audiences praised it at the time for its allegorical take on life in post-9/11 America. Spielberg's only other major hit in the genre since has been *Ready Player One*, which took around $580 million globally in 2018.
