Tom Holland has spoken about seeing the finished cut of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" for the first time, saying director Destin Daniel Cretton exceeded his expectations for the franchise. In a joint interview with Collider, Holland was joined by co-stars Jon Bernthal and Jacob Batalon to discuss the upcoming Marvel film, which sees Peter Parker isolated after everyone he knows has forgotten him, forcing him into an unlikely alliance with Bernthal's Punisher.

The film finds Peter fighting crime alone, without his usual Stark Industries tech or superpowered allies, while friends including Ned (Batalon) and MJ (Zendaya) have moved on without him. This solitary new chapter also triggers a mysterious mutation in his powers as he faces an unseen enemy. The cast, which also includes Sadie Sink in her MCU debut and Mark Ruffalo returning as the Hulk, discussed working with Cretton, with Bernthal additionally addressing how the Punisher's darker edge fits within the film's PG-13 rating.
