‘Tomb Raider’ Officially Returns With a Surprise Release This Summer
The Tomb Raider franchise is undergoing a substantial revival across multiple entertainment platforms. A forthcoming Prime Video series headlined by Sophie Turner is resuming filming after a brief production halt in spring, whilst the original 1996 game receives a complete technical reconstruction using Unreal Engine 5, set to launch on next-generation consoles and PC in early 2027.
Combining these efforts is a new board game adaptation titled Tomb Raider: Crypt of Chronos, developed by Iconiq Studio, which has secured crowdfunding and will begin shipping to backers throughout the remainder of 2026. The game offers solo gameplay structured as self-contained expeditions lasting approximately one hour each, alongside an extended island campaign requiring roughly three hours to complete, maintaining the franchise's emphasis on intricate puzzle design.
