Tonali nightmare as Sangare stars – Brentford v Spurs player ratings
Brentford began the Premier League season with a convincing 3-0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur, exposing major problems in Roberto de Zerbi’s rebuilt Spurs side. Mamadou Sangare was praised as outstanding in midfield, while £100m signing Sandro Tonali endured a particularly poor debut as Tottenham struggled to create sustained danger.
Keane Lewis-Potter opened the scoring after Sangare’s assist, Vitaly Janelt added a second after Antonin Kinsky spilled Mathias Jensen’s shot, and Michael Kayode sealed victory. Sangare received the highest rating, eight out of 10, with Brentford’s £39m record signing influential throughout; Spurs had several players rated four or five, while Igor Thiago missed a second-half penalty despite an otherwise strong display.
- Brentford beat Tottenham 3-0 in a dominant display.
- Sangare impressed; Tonali struggled badly on debut.
- Spurs’ expensive rebuild started with defensive and midfield failures.
