Too immersive for its own good? GTA 6’s cars will need refueling, and that’s either awesome or awful
Grand Theft Auto 6 will require players to refuel petrol vehicles and recharge electric cars, according to Rockstar North co-director Rob Nelson. The feature could make pursuits and vehicle thefts more unpredictable, but its reception will depend on whether it enhances immersion without turning routine driving into a chore.
Nelson said a full tank should last a substantial time, suggesting Rockstar aims to limit inconvenience. He described stealing a car during a police chase with only a quarter of a tank remaining, making escape impossible before it ran out; the system forms part of a wider push towards a more grounded game, ahead of the console release on 19 November.

- Rockstar says refuelling should not become overly intrusive.
- Low fuel could complicate chases and stolen-car escapes.
