Between 2017 and 2020, El-Sayed attended and spoke at six events hosted by the DSA, including headlining a fundraiser for the group in 2019. Despite this record, he has sought to distance himself from the socialist label while campaigning, and has separately told supporters that groups such as ICE, health insurers and corporate interests should view him as "dangerous" if elected to the US Senate.
