A man was discovered filming in the public gallery at Sheffield Crown Court and spent two days in custody. Christian Bebe Milhailescu was detained on July 6 after court staff observed him recording with his mobile phone, in breach of longstanding regulations prohibiting any filming within the courtroom. His phone was seized and he remained in custody whilst the incident was investigated.

When brought before the court's senior judge, Judge Jeremy Richardson reviewed the footage and found that it had been captured during a break in proceedings, without active judicial presence, and determined that Milhailescu had acted without malicious intent. Accepting that the defendant was unfamiliar with English legal procedures and genuinely unaware of the filming prohibition, the judge declined to pursue formal contempt charges. However, he issued a formal admonishment to Milhailescu and a broader public warning, making clear that future violations would likely result in more severe judicial consequences.
