The boycott reflects long-running grievances rather than dissatisfaction with results: a petition signed by more than 45,000 people cites nearly seven years without a trophy and a lack of ambitious signings, while other complaints concern the club's handling of a memorial for a fan killed by a flare in 1979 and Lotito's divided attentions as an Italian senator and former owner of Salernitana. Before Saturday's game against Milan, which finished level after Lazio led by two goals, hundreds of fans formed a moped convoy to escort the team bus before deliberately staying away from the stadium, with attendance roughly half of last season's figure for the same fixture.
