ZQ Entertainment, Prime Universe Films and Longevity Pictures have acquired the exclusive film and television rights to Tormented Souls, the survival horror video game franchise created by indie developer Dual Effect. The deal signals continued Hollywood interest in adapting video games, with backers betting that the game's growing global fanbase can support a major horror franchise on screen.

ZQ Entertainment will finance development and co-finance production, with the project produced by Prime Universe's Adrian Askarieh, ZQ's Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl, and Longevity's Majd Nassif. Tormented Souls, originally released on Steam via publisher PQube Games before expanding to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, follows Caroline Walker as she searches for missing twin girls inside the abandoned Wildberger Hospital, encountering grotesque experiments and supernatural horrors; the game has since spawned a sequel, Tormented Souls 2.
