Toronto-Bound Hong Kong Drama ‘We Are Born Good’ Boarded by Edko Films for World Sales
Hong Kong-based Edko Films, run by Bill Kong, has signed on to handle world sales for "We Are Born Good," the debut feature from writer-director Yeung Leung Chuen. The Cantonese-language drama will have its world premiere in the Discovery section of the Toronto Film Festival, marking a notable launch for a first-time filmmaker on the international festival and sales circuit.
The film stars Chung Suet Ying, a Golden Horse Award winner for "The Way We Talk," and Yeung Wai Lun, a Hong Kong Film Award best actor nominee, as two strangers whose feud, sparked by a restaurant mishap, escalates until they realise the real threats in their lives lie closer to home. Yeung Leung Chuen based the premise on a viral CCTV clip of a market dispute turning violent, using it to explore the pressures of modern urban life. Patricia Cheng produces, with a crew including production designer Jasper Tsang Ka Pik, costume designer Dora Ng and veteran sound designer Duu Chih Tu, whose past collaborators include Wong Kar-wai and Hou Hsiao-hsien.
