Tourist files $800k lawsuit against Salem’s famous ‘Witch House’ over claims she fell down ‘uneven’ 17th Century wooden steps and broke her arm
Kimberly Reiser, a Pennsylvania tourist, is suing the City of Salem over a fall on the staircase of the historic Jonathan Corwin House, known as the Witch House. Her claim argues that unsafe steps at the popular museum caused serious injuries and that the city failed to maintain a safe route for visitors.
The lawsuit says Reiser fell five or six steps during a group tour in November 2023, breaking her upper arm and dislocating her left shoulder. She is seeking $767,825, including claimed medical, therapy and ambulance costs, lost wages, and compensation for pain and suffering. The city is due to respond by 5 February; the house is a rare surviving Salem Witch Trials site and is managed as a museum.
