Police in Cheshire have recovered two HGV trailers stolen from a Guinness depot in Runcorn, but the 800 barrels of stout they carried, worth an estimated £115,000, remain missing. The theft, which took place last Monday, saw thieves make off with more than 70,000 pints of the Irish stout that had been awaiting delivery to pubs, prompting an ongoing police investigation and public appeal for information.

The empty trailers were found abandoned around 30 miles away in Lathom, near Skelmersdale, Lancashire, having been left at different times and locations over the following two days. Investigators say a lorry and trailer left the Whitehouse Industrial Estate site at around 7.55pm, followed by a second lorry attaching another loaded trailer shortly after 9pm before driving off. Cheshire Constabulary have described two men believed to be involved and are asking anyone approached to buy the missing Guinness, or with dashcam footage from the area, to come forward.
