Chelsea completed two significant transfer moves on the same day, agreeing to sell defender Trevoh Chalobah to Como while confirming the free-transfer signing of midfielder Jordan Henderson from Brentford. The Chalobah deal, worth an initial £25.7m, marks the end of a 19-year association with the club for the 27-year-old, who came through Chelsea's academy, while Henderson's arrival strengthens new manager Xabi Alonso's squad with valuable experience.

Chalobah made 105 Premier League appearances for Chelsea and his move to Como, managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, includes £5.1m in add-ons and a sell-on clause, generating pure profit for Chelsea's finances. Henderson, 36, joins after a season at Brentford that included a place in England's World Cup squad, having previously spent 12 years at Liverpool where he captained the side to Champions League and Premier League glory; he is Chelsea's fourth English signing of the window, following Morgan Rogers, Danny Welbeck and Harrison Bettoni.
