The 1986 animated film Transformers: The Movie will return to cinemas next month for its 40th anniversary, giving audiences another chance to see the original big-screen story of the Autobots and Decepticons. The re-release matters because the film remains a defining, and emotionally notorious, entry in the franchise, particularly for its early depiction of Optimus Prime’s death.

The restored 4K version will screen from 17 to 21 September 2026, with releases planned for Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and Germany. US and UK audiences will also be able to see it in 4DX, while the anniversary forms part of Hasbro’s year-long promotional “Apology Tour”, including concerts, merchandise and toys.
